Johnson Design - Leadership and Team

Leadership & Team

"To have a career in which I can use my creative ability to create a positive effect in my environment is really powerful for me."
–Kent Johnson, Principal

Beginning with a single art class in college at Florida State University in 1976, Kent Johnson learned rather quickly that he had both an affinity and a talent for design. From that first class, he discovered he was gifted with the ability to see something in an abstract and creative way, a valuable talent perfectly suited for architecture. Kent received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Florida A&M University and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Architecture from Georgia Tech in 1984. He holds a certificate in Urban Planning and is currently taking courses for his LEED certification, something that is personally important to him because of his love of the outdoors and natural sustainable design.

He began working at a large architectural firm in Florida in which he was involved in highly recognized commercial and residential projects, but worked little with clients during the creative process. In 1989, he went out on his own and founded Johnson Design, which gave him the ability to interact closely with clients and work alongside them throughout their project - a passion he still has today.

In 1993, Johnson Design relocated to Wisconsin, to the tranquil Lake Country area outside of Milwaukee. While not designing for clients, Kent’s mind is still inventing and creating. His love of anything outdoors inspired his recent personal hobby: creating hand crafted fly fishing rods.
